Love Marriage Vs Arranged Marriage is one of the most common topics discussed and debated in terms of “Marriage”.
Ask yourself following two questions –
Que 1: Do you believe that all couples who did love marriage are happy with their marital life and/or life partner?
Que 2: Do you believe that all couples who did arrange marriage are happy with their marital life and/or life partner?
The answers to both the questions are surely a No!
Whether people do love marriage or arranged marriage, some couples are happy, while others are unhappy with their marital life.
I firmly believe that the success of any marriage does not depend upon the type of marriage – love marriage or arranged marriage, it rather depends on the Understanding, love, compassion, and trust between the couples.
There are many advantages and disadvantages of both types of marriage based on which you can decide to go for love or an arranged marriage. To dig down into the Love Vs Arranged Marriage debate, let’s discuss some significant advantages and disadvantages of both types of marriage:
Arranged Marriage:
Pros:
- The most significant advantage of an arranged marriage is – since traditional, cultural, and socio-economical scenarios are similar in both families, couples already know each other’s family values, traditions, culture, and rituals in most cases.
- Your parents and family members will make a background check or inquiry of your prospective life partner.
- In case of any couple dispute, both the families usually act as mediators to resolve the matter.
- After your marriage, you will enjoy the process to know an unknown person. It puts some spice in a couple’s marital life.
Cons:
- Since your family found your life partner, the most significant disadvantage of an arranged marriage is – the couple gets less time to know each other before marriage.
- Since you married an unknown person, both the partners need to make more adjustments than it could have been in a Love Marriage.
- You need some more time after your marriage to know the likes, dislikes, interests, etc., of your life partner than in a Love Marriage.
- Dowry-related issues might affect the finances of the bride’s family.
Love Marriage:
Pros:
- In a love marriage, you marry the person you loved.
- You know your life partner very well before you marry him/her.
- Compatibility between the couples is usually high, as they already know the likes, dislikes, interests, etc., of their life partner.
- Considering all the above pros of Love Marriage, better Understanding and coordination between the couples can be expected after their marriage.
Cons:
- Being in an open relationship and a marital relationship are completely different things. So liking a person before marriage does not guarantee having the same level of love throughout life.
- Since both know each other for years, many couples get bored with each other due to a lack of new or exciting things.
- Traditional, Cultural, socio-economical, and family differences may hamper your relationship.
- Family might go against your decision (depends on different cases).
- Specific data show that the divorce rate of couples who did love marriage is considered higher than the couples who did arrange marriage (we are not discussing the data and their sources here, and also, I believe that type of marriage does not decide the success/failure of your marriage).
Conclusion:
It is not the “TYPE” of the marriage that matters. Instead, only the “COUPLE” themselves can make their marriage successful or unsuccessful.
- What do you think which type of marriage is better than the other one?
- Do you want to do love marriage or an arranged one?
- Have you done a Love marriage or an Arranged marriage? How happy are you with your decision?
